Alternative Uses Following Lapsed Planning Permission

If an approved tourism scheme does not proceed, alternative land uses will only be permitted if sufficient alternative tourism accommodation exists locally in line with the Tourism Priorities for Action Plan, with consultation with NITB.

The grant of planning permission will not in itself allow for inappropriate alternative uses if an approved scheme for some reason does not go ahead. While the planning authority cannot require business enterprises which become uneconomic to continue, alternative land uses will only be approved if there is sufficient alternative accommodation in the locality to provide for tourism benefit in line with the Tourism 'Priorities for Action' Plan. The planning authority will consult with NITB in making this assessment.
