Planning Permission for Development in Reservoir Flood Inundation Areas
Development within a reservoir's flood inundation area requires planning permission subject to assurance that the reservoir's condition, management, and maintenance provide adequate safety. Planning applications must include certification from a flood risk management expert, appraised by Rivers Agency.
Development within the flood inundation area of a reservoir can only be justified where the condition, management and maintenance regime of the reservoir are appropriate to provide assurance regarding reservoir safety. Accordingly, the policy requires that planning permission for new development can only be granted subject to such assurance. In this regard, the planning application must be accompanied by certification from a person with demonstrable experience in flood risk management, which will then require to be appraised by Rivers Agency, as the responsible body for the management of reservoir flood risk.
