Planning authority consultation on drainage assessment

Planning authorities should consult with Rivers Agency and other relevant bodies when assessing drainage assessment needs and appraising proposals, to establish evidence of surface water flooding history and assess impacts on infrastructure.

In assessing the need for a drainage assessment the planning authority may consult with Rivers Agency or other relevant government departments and non departmental public bodies. This may be necessary in order to establish whether there is evidence of a history of surface water flooding at a particular location. Consultation will also be carried out as necessary in appraising the drainage assessment. This is necessary not only to assess the adequacy of the proposed control and mitigation measures in the context of the policy, but also to afford the opportunity for such bodies to assess the impact of the measures upon their infrastructure.
