Review of existing development plans for flood risk

Planning authorities may need to review existing development plans to address flood risk issues identified through emerging flood risk information, and may formally amend the plan if flood risk cannot be properly managed through the development management system.

As part of the precautionary approach, the planning authority may also need to review extant development plans with a view to addressing flood risk issues which may only have been identified relatively recently as a result of the emerging flood risk information. This may be necessary, for example, where undeveloped land previously zoned for development is now known to be located in a flood plain. In such circumstances and providing the flood risk cannot be properly managed through the development management system, a formal amendment to the Plan may need to be considered.
