Sustainable Development and Flood Risk Management in Development Plans

Development plan preparation provides an opportunity for planning authorities to plan for sustainable development patterns. Flood risk management is an important aspect of sustainable development due to flooding's far-reaching implications for society, the economy, and the environment.

The preparation of a development plan provides a key opportunity for the planning authority to consider how best to plan for and facilitate sustainable patterns of development in the plan area in accordance with the broader sustainability objectives of the RDS and the Northern Ireland Sustainable Development Strategy. Flood risk management is one important aspect of sustainable development as flooding has far reaching and long term implications for society, the economy and the environment.
