EU Floods Directive transposition and competent authority
The EU Floods Directive was transposed into Northern Ireland legislation in 2009, with DARD identified as the Competent Authority and River Agency handling day-to-day functions for implementing flood risk assessment and management requirements.
The European Directive on the Assessment and Management of Flood Risks came into force in November 2007 and was transposed into local legislation by The Water Environment (Floods Directive) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2009. DARD has been identified as the Competent Authority for the delivery of the EU Floods Directive in Northern Ireland with the day to day functions expedited by River Agency.
