Accessibility of the Transportation System

The transport system should be improved to reduce physical barriers and provide equal travel opportunities, including through development of an Accessible Transport Strategy for Northern Ireland addressing needs of people with disabilities and older people.

The government is fully committed to an inclusive society in which no one is disadvantaged. Work to improve the accessibility of the transportation system complements the process of creating a more inclusive environment. The RTS acknowledges that the transport system presents physical barriers that deny travel opportunities to many people. DRD in the preparation of an Accessible Transport Strategy (ATS) for Northern Ireland, will among other things, examine the scope for a more co-ordinated approach to the planning and provision of transport for people with disabilities and older people.
