Travel Plans for Significant Travel Generating Uses

Travel Plans should be developed for developments that are significant travel generators, setting out measures and targets to promote sustainable travel patterns and reduce car dependency.

Travel Plans are documents that set out a package of complementary measures for the overall delivery of more sustainable travel patterns. They should be implemented to encourage a shift in transport mode for those who are or will be travelling to and from a development. Travel Plans may be required for those developments which are likely to be significant travel generators such as airports, businesses, hospitals and schools. They can help mitigate adverse impacts highlighted in a Transport Assessment and may also be used as a measure to promote more sustainable access to help reduce car dependency.
