Policy DM 6: Development within Centres - Diverse Uses and Town Centre Support
The Council encourages diverse retail and complementary town centre uses that support the functioning of centres and meet local needs. Development proposals must contribute positively to the vitality and viability of centres and maintain or enhance visual amenity through active, attractive frontages.
The Council will encourage and support a diverse range of retail and complementary town centre uses[4] within our Borough's identified centres provided these support rather than detract from the successful functioning of the centres and their ability to meet local needs. All development proposals should contribute positively to the vitality and viability of the centre, and will be required to demonstrate that they will maintain or enhance the visual amenity of the area by providing an active and attractive frontage appropriate to the location.
