PPS 12 Housing in Settlements·Page 21·50
Affordable Housing Context in Northern Ireland
The page notes that unlike England, Northern Ireland does not currently face extreme affordable housing shortages except in isolated 'hot spots' where supplies are generally available in wider areas.
Affordable housing is being delivered through the private housing market, particularly in the South East of England, where there is a severe lack of affordable housing for key workers. However, in Northern Ireland affordable housing has not reached such extreme levels. Research has identified only isolated locations in Northern Ireland where house price inflation has reached such levels that affordability is an issue. These may be termed as affordable housing hot spots, but generally there are ample supplies of affordable houses available within the wider area of these locations.
