Affordable Housing Delivery Mechanisms
PPS 12 identifies six primary mechanisms currently available to deliver affordable housing in Northern Ireland, including social renting, housing benefit funded private renting, co-ownership, and housing association or NIHE house sales.
Outside of development plans the delivery of affordable housing to meet the needs of different household types in Northern Ireland can at present be met by the following housing mechanisms:
• social renting (Housing Executive);
• social renting (Housing Association);
• housing benefit funded private renting;
• open market low cost owner occupation (co-ownership);
• NIHE house sales; and
• Housing Association house sales.
