Spatial Development Strategy Principles for Housing

The approach to housing location integrates housing with economic development and services to achieve sustainable patterns, promotes balanced regional distribution, and fosters community and quality living environments.

The approach to the location of future housing development, set out in the RDS is consistent with the spatial development strategy and reflects the guiding principles of the RDS by: integrating housing with economic development, services, transport, and the local environment to achieve more sustainable patterns of development which make better use of resources; helping to create a more cohesive society by a balanced spread of housing across the region and a high degree of integration with the Regional Strategic Transport Network of road and rail corridors; and fostering a greater sense of community with a focus on place, the value of the individual, and high quality living environments.
