Waste Minimisation Definition and Benefits
Waste minimisation involves reducing the quantity of waste produced to lower environmental and economic costs. The Department aims to incorporate waste minimisation into new development design and layout where practicable.
Waste minimisation is concerned with reducing the quantity of waste that is produced and which would otherwise require treatment or disposal by one of the other options in the waste hierarchy. The main benefits of waste minimisation are the lower environmental and economic costs associated with production and waste disposal. The Department wishes to ensure, as far as is practicable, that waste minimisation is incorporated in an appropriate fashion in the design and layout of new development.
