Composting facilities - environmental concerns
Commercial composting facilities can generate odour, dust, noise, and bio-aerosols (bacteria and fungal spores) that impact residential areas and workplaces at significant distances. While noise and dust can be controlled through operational measures, odour and bio-aerosols require special consideration in facility siting.
Due to the potential for the generation of odour, dust, noise and bio aerosols (including bacteria and fungal spores) the operation of commercial composting facilities can present problems in the vicinity of residential areas and workplaces.
