Protection of High Quality Agricultural Land
High quality agricultural land should be protected from development where practicable, as it is rarely feasible to return developed land to viable agricultural use. Development should be directed to areas of poorer agricultural quality land and encourage reuse of redundant or derelict land.
High quality agricultural land is an important resource. Once developed, the return to viable agricultural use is rarely feasible. It is important to protect, as far as is practicable, the best and most versatile agricultural land from development. Where possible, planning policy will be to avoid the loss of high grade land but on occasions the need for a waste management facility may be the overriding consideration. Particular consideration will be given to directing development to areas of poorer agricultural quality land and encouraging the re-use of redundant or derelict land.
