Compatibility of Waste Management Facilities with Adjacent Development
Waste management facilities need not always be separated from residential or sensitive uses if they will not cause detriment to amenity through noise, dust, or noxious emissions; the Department will not restrict development solely on the basis of land use differences.
Certain waste management facilities, such as landfill sites or incinerators can cause significant amenity problems for the occupiers of neighbouring properties. However, it is not always necessary or appropriate to separate waste management facilities, especially small-scale developments such as civic amenity sites and recycling plants, from residential or other sensitive uses, provided they will not cause detriment to amenity by reason of noise, dust or noxious emissions. The Department will not therefore restrict development solely because it differs from the predominant land use in the locality.
