Principles of Sustainable Waste Management
Sets out seven key principles that underpin waste management strategy: sustainable development, the waste hierarchy, proximity principle, regional self-sufficiency, integrated facilities, reduction in landfilling, and Best Practicable Environmental Option.
The key principles of sustainable waste management that underpin the WMS are:
1 Sustainable development;
2 The waste management hierarchy;
3 The proximity principle;
4 Regional self sufficiency;
5 The development of integrated waste management facilities;
6 A reduction in the amount of waste being landfilled; and
7 The "Best Practicable Environmental Option"(BPEO).
