PPS 11 Planning and Waste Management·Page 7·1.3
Strategic Context and Sustainable Development Framework
Sets out the strategic context for waste management planning in Northern Ireland, grounded in sustainable development principles that underpin government policy and prioritize waste reduction, recycling, and safe management.
The Northern Ireland Executive's Programme for Government seeks to ensure that the principle of sustainable development underpins all government policy and it is one of the key themes underlying the Department's approach to planning. It can be described as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". Reducing, recycling and the safe management of waste is a continuing priority for the Executive.
