Closure of analogue mobile networks and site re-use encouragement

Original analogue cellular networks have been replaced by GSM and closed down. The Department encourages operators to re-use existing sites where practicable to minimise the need for new second and third generation base station sites.

The original analogue cellular networks have now closed down, and have been replaced by GSM (see below). They are therefore not described in this Statement. However, with the closure of the analogue network, the Department would encourage operators to re-use existing sites, wherever practicable, in order to minimise the need for new second and third generation base station sites.
