Amended guidance on enlarged cubicles and Changing Places toilets

Enlarged cubicles benefit multiple groups of users including disabled people and those with children. Changing Places toilets designed for individuals with complex and multiple impairments should be provided in addition to wheelchair accessible facilities and baby changing provision in large building developments.

The provision of an enlarged cubicle in a separate sex toilet washroom can benefit ambulant people who have a disability, people with assistance dogs, as well as people with children and people (e.g. those with luggage) who need an enlarged space. In large building developments (see paragraph 6.14A) an enlarged unisex toilet incorporating an adult changing table is desirable. Changing Places toilets, facilities designed for individuals with complex and multiple impairments who may require the help of up to two assistants, should be provided in addition to any wheelchair accessible unisex toilet facilities and baby changing provision (where provided). Further guidance on layout and equipment is available from the Changing Places Consortium campaign website (www.changing-places.org) and by reference to guidance in Clause 18.6, Figure 48 and Annexes F and G of BS 8300-2: 2018.
