Safety requirements for power-operated pedestrian doors and gates

Power-operated doors and gates for pedestrian use must incorporate a safety stop or re-activating device to prevent striking persons, and must revert to manual control or fail safe in the open position during power failure.

A power operated door or gate designed and constructed for pedestrian use should – (a) incorporate a safety stop or door re-activating device to prevent the door striking a person passing through if the door begins to close; and (b) revert to manual control or fail safe in the open position in the event of a power failure.
