Exemptions from guarding requirements
Certain elements are exempt from the general guarding design and height requirements, including spiral/helical stairs in dwellings, maintenance-only access stairs in non-domestic buildings, and vehicle barriers.
Paragraphs 5.2 to 5.4 do not apply to –
(a) guarding to a spiral or helical stair in a dwelling;
(b) guarding to a stair or a fixed ladder, in a building other than a dwelling, providing access solely for the purpose of maintenance; and
(c) a vehicle barrier.
