Tactile warning surfaces on complementary steps landings
Tactile corduroy surfaces must be provided on top and bottom landings of complementary steps to warn of level changes. The depth depends on approach direction: 800 mm for head-on approaches, or 400 mm for non-head-on approaches, extending at least 400 mm beyond each side of the steps and at least 400 mm from the nearest nosing.
To give advance warning of the change in level, a tactile corduroy surface should be provided on the top and bottom landings of complementary steps. See Diagram 2.2. The size of this surface should be –
(a) 800 mm deep when the approach to the steps is head on; or
(b) 400 mm deep when the approach to the steps is not head on.
In either case, the surface should extend not less than 400 mm beyond each side of the steps and be located not less than 400 mm from the nearest nosing. See Diagram 2.3.
