Design requirements for bookmaking offices in shopping centres and conservation areas
Bookmaking offices in shopping centres, streets, and Conservation Areas must have compatible design with surroundings, including appropriate shop-window displays, fascia, and lettering that match retail outlets; blank frontages and designs alien to the area are not acceptable.
In considering proposals for bookmaking offices in shopping centres and streets, and particularly in Conservation Areas, the council will pay particular attention to design to ensure that it does not mar the street frontage and that the nature and colour of the external finishes are compatible with surrounding properties. This can be achieved by the provision of shop-window type displays and a fascia and lettering that is compatible with surrounding retail outlets. Designs which are fundamentally alien to the existing character of an area or building are not acceptable e.g. blank frontages with high level windows.
