Definition of Bookmaking Office

A bookmaking office is a licensed establishment for betting that is classified as a Sui Generis use under planning law, rather than falling within a standard use class.

A bookmaking office is an establishment that is licensed to enable betting within the premises. Bookmaking offices are not considered to be a retail use and do not fall within any use class of the Planning (Use Classes) Order (Northern Ireland) 2015; as such, they are considered a Sui Generis use. It is therefore a form of development for which further guidance and clarification is appropriate to ensure the unique nature of the development can be adequately assessed.
