Outdoor Seating on Pavements – Application Requirements
Planning applications for outdoor seating on pavements must include detailed drawings and notify the pavement owner. Applicants must consider hours of operation, access, seating layout, furniture design, and ensure outdoor seating does not interfere with pedestrian flow.
Restaurants, cafés and hot food takeaways may propose to include outdoor seating and furniture to the front of their premises (on a public footpath), to enable customers to eat and drink outside. Details and drawings of such areas should be included within any planning application. The owner of the pavement will also have to be notified as part of the application submission. Applicants should consider: • hours of operation; • pedestrian/vehicular access to and from the premises; • size and layout of outdoor seating area; • furniture design; • outdoor seating should not interfere with pedestrian flow.
