Waste management requirements for food establishments
Planning applications for restaurants, cafés and hot food takeaways must accommodate on-site waste where possible with screened bin stores, manage customer litter both on and off premises, and install grease traps on all drains to prevent blockages and flooding.
All planning applications for restaurants, cafés and hot food takeaways should: • where possible, accommodate waste generated from the use of the premises on site. If within the curtilage of a building, bin stores should be adequately screened and be designed so as to respect the character of the area; • consider how customer waste both on and off the premises will be managed e.g. external litterbins; • propose suitable grease traps be installed on all drains for restaurants, cafés and hot food takeaways to prevent blockages and flooding of properties.
