Noise Assessment Guidance Standards

Developers should reference current guidance standards for noise impact assessment including British Standards for industrial and commercial sound, building sound insulation, vibration assessment, and professional practice guidance on planning and noise.

Reference should be made to current guidance and any updated/superceded versions of the following: BS4142:2014+A1:2019 methods for rating and assessing industrial and commercial sound; BS8233:2014 guidance on sound insulation and noise reduction for buildings; WHO Guidelines for Community Noise 1999; BS6272-1:2008 guide to evaluation of human exposure to vibration in buildings-Vibration sources other than blasting; IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment) Guidelines for Environmental Noise Impact Assessment, version 1.2, 2014; Acoustics and Noise Consultants, Institute of Acoustics, Chartered Institute of Environmental Health ProPG: Planning & Noise.
