Strategic Planning Policy Statement 2015 - City Centre and Tourism Development Principles

The SPPS establishes core planning principles for sustainable development and community well-being, recognizing city centres as important employment and cultural hubs. It safeguards tourism assets and supports new tourism development while protecting residential and work environments from adverse noise impacts.

The SPPS establishes the core planning principles with the aim of furthering sustainable development and improving community well-being. City centres are important hubs for a wide variety of employment, retailing, leisure and cultural uses, offering opportunities for social interaction and creating a vibrant sense of place. Tourism makes a vital contribution to the growth of the local economy, creating employment, supporting the vibrancy of the city's culture and heritage. The SPPS safeguards tourism assets, and supports new tourism development to deliver the growth of the tourism sector, and the vibrancy of the city centre economy.
